ManVsMachine

There are many films which have always tried to light the fears that technology can have for us in the future, in a way it relies of this because at the end it is the unknown and nobody really know how far technology will go before its to late. This is much like sci-fi it is the unknown it can be manipulated into anything to make it real, so the to genres fit together nicely
The Matrix-(1999)
Of-course the matrix is basically set in a machince controlling what the people are perceiving as reality, this could be seen as a version of virtual reality whereby they are just pawns being played. Here there is a scary role reversal its no longer man over machine its now machine control man

Another Role-reversal within the theme is
Metropolis-(1927)

People are reduced to something merly mechanical, the life of machine disqualifies the purpose for human labour. The SFX used here in metropolis was the latest technology and was used to fool us making technology feel apart of sci-fi.
They made the audience feel a lot more tense and closed in by the technology,  by using the setting. Where the made it closed horizons and gated community's, getting the heightened feeling of entrapment.
